Architectural Drafter

If you enjoy technical drawing, working with plans, elevations, perspective and computer aided design and drafting (CADD) then you might consider a career as an architectural drafter.

Architectural drafters complete architects’ and other designers’ concepts by preparing drawings, estimates and plans and liaising with builders and contractors.  Most drafters use CADD systems to prepare drawings, however manual drafting may still be used in certain applications.  An architectural drafter may specialise as an independent architectural drafter who designs and drafts buildings on behalf of a client.  They manage the building contracts and liaise with other designers or specialists such as builders, surveyors or landscapers throughout the building process.

The Eiffel Tower’s blueprints covered more than
13,000 square metres of drafting paper.
