Try-A-Trade
The No Limits Try-A-Trade courses are fully funded by the Construction Training Fund and delivered by Registered Training Organisations (RTO) for students in Years 9 and 10 for some hands-on experience of building and construction trades. Depending on facilities available to the RTO, each course can cover up to four full school days and cover up to five trades. Generally, the RTO will promote their Try-A-Trade courses directly to local schools. To find out more about Try-A-Trade and the RTOs delivering courses, contact the Construction Training Fund on 9244 0100 or email careers@nolimits.com.au
School to Work Transition Funding
If your school enrols students in construction related Certificate I or II courses through Structured Workplace Learning or School Apprenticeship Link (SAL), then the school may be eligible for funding to assist students to develop their skills. The Construction Training Fund can provide up to $300 per student (up to $450 in regional areas) to assist with the purchase of personal protective equipment, mandatory safety training and the employment of an industry-based mentor to enrich the student’s workplace learning experience.
Construction Safety Awareness (White Card) Training
Legislation introduced on 1st January 2007 requires all workers in the building and construction industry to undertake mandatory Safety Awareness Training.
This includes all students who undertake work experience on building and construction sites. The Construction Training Fund can subsidise the cost of Safety Awareness Training courses for eligible students undertaking extended work experience on construction sites.
From the beginning of 2009, all schools enrolling groups of students in White Card training courses will need to claim the subsidy directly from the Fund. Information relating to White Card training and claim forms for schools are available here. Individual students undertaking white card training independently of their school can download claim forms here.
Professional Development days for Educators
How well do you know the building and construction industry? The Construction Training Fund runs a series of PD workshops and day tours for teachers to explore the stages and scope of residential, commercial and civil construction projects. Representatives from the industry explain how projects move through planning to completion, with a focus on the occupations and the people involved who bring the projects to life.
The PD tours are structured around a full school day and are limited to 25 participants per tour. Lunch, morning and afternoon refreshments are included and there is no cost to participants. Certificates of participation are issued for teacher professional development logs.
